Hoodia Appetite

The Hoodia Gordonii is popularly known to suppress cravings for food of the consumer. Hoodia appetite suppressant was first used by the “San” people of South Africa that travelled across Kalahari Desert to hunt and gather food for their community and families. It is believed that by chewing the hoodia plant, the San people have been able to survive days of no eating yet still remain active with full energy.

The plant contains an ingredient or a substance called P57. This ingredient is the one responsible for the plant to be known as Hoodia appetite suppressant.

Even though patented by several pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer, there is still no available and published scientific validation that hoodia appetite suppressant works for humans. Several experiments were tried to rats and guinea pigs but scientists failed to daw conclusion on its applicability to human beings. What the scientists found out on their experiments was that the ingredient P57 found in Hoodia Gordonii represses production of Gastric Acid in our stomach or digestion system for the matter. Their research found out that a 50-milligram standardized extract of the said ingredient reduced gastric acid output for by 40% to 60%. However, the experiments were done in vivo and vitro to controlled populations of rats.

Unfortunately, in the contrary, this lack of scientific and validated pieces of evidence did not hamper the weight loss supplement companies and manufacturers from packaging and propagating the Hoodia Gordonii as Hoodia Appetite Suppressant. These weight loss supplement companies and manufacturers produce hoodia appetite suppressant in the forms of pills or tablets or capsules, liquid tinctures or coffee or tea or syrups, shakes or pulp and even diet bars.

Some packaging of these products even claim to be effective in lowering blood pressure, curing heart diseases, diarrhoea, ulcer and many others, aside from its popular use of being a weight loss supplement. These claims, aside from hoodia appetite suppressant, can be validated or checked through the acquisition of the Certification from Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). If this is stated in the package, then the product contains real, genuine and authentic hoodia gordonii extracts. This CITES certification was included in the requirements for legitimacy since the 13th Congress of the Conference of the Parties declared that hoodia gordonii be included in the list of endangered species of fauna. This was aimed to prevent possible abuse in trade of the said plant.
